Why

 

Christmas is a big milestone and can be a hard time of year, not only for those unwell with cancer, undergoing treatment and stuck in hospital or hospice, but also for friends and families supporting, and those who have lost loved ones to the disease.

There are a number of reasons for undertaking this challenge at this time of year and one of them is to raise awareness of this. Christmas is a time that I myself found hard whilst my wife Janie was ill with the disease and more so after she passed away in November 2013. She is the inspiration behind this challenge.

Furthermore, cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats is a difficult challenge in summer, but I wanted to add a bit of a twist to make it a little tougher, in the hope that the challenge would be worthy of peoples sponsorship and raise as much money as I can for the five charities I have chosen to support.
